COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
Book Fair – Each fall and spring, the HBEC PTO sponsors a Scholastic Book Fair. Proceeds from the Book Fair benefit the HBEC Library/Media Center and other literary enrichment opportunities of HBEC students. The fall book fair is a weeklong event that typically coincides with fall conferences and Donuts with Dad. There are typically two spring books fairs, one coinciding with spring conference and kindergarten registration and the other on the Grandparents Day event. All book fairs are open during school hours for class visits. Committee members volunteer for one or more aspects of the fair including: set-up and tear down, working hourly shifts, publicity, teacher liaison and volunteer coordination. The Chairperson(s) for this committee are responsible for overall scheduling, delegation and coordination of event.
Elves Workshop – The Elves Workshop typically occurs the second week of December during school hours and is designed to provide an opportunity for all HBEC Students to complete a different, grade/age appropriate craft project that they might give to family members as a holiday gift! These projects are holiday-themed and are completed at the workshop. The chairperson is responsible for coordinating the event including arranging volunteers to plan, select, organize and execute a craft for each grade. Volunteers are needed to organize an age appropriate craft as well as prepare examples of the actual craft for reference on the day of the workshop.

Trunk-Or-Treat - This committee plans our annual trunk-or-treat event that takes place in the school parking lot. Committee will create flyers and sign up participants to decorate their trunks, including enlisting local businesses to participate. The committee will also plan and award prizes for participants.
Family Fun Nights - This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating family fun nights, but within the school setting and outside the school setting (ie. resturant nights, bowling night, mini-golf night, etc).

Breakfast With Santa - This is a free event that includes breakfast and a visit with Santa. It can also include a craft fair, raffle or silent auction. The committee will plan the breakfast menu, enlist volunteers to set up/serve/breakdown the event, request donations for the raffle or auction prizes, and arrange for Santa to visit the school. The committee will also solicit crafters and groups or organizations to participate in the craft fair, along with planning the layout & table placement for vendors/organizations.

RACE for Education - This committee is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the annual Race for Education, which is our biggest fundraiser for the HBEC PTO. Volunteers assist with preparing, mailing and receiving mailers, general help preparing for the RACE and help on the day of the RACE.

School Store – The HBEC PTO opens a school store stocked with school supplies at or near costs for students who may need to purchase them. This store is generally located in the lobby, just outside of the cafeteria. Chairperson(s) select and purchase items, organize volunteers, and set the dates of the sale (typically every other Wednesday). Volunteers are generally needed between 11:00am – 1:30pm twice a month.
Shop and Support – This committee is responsible for promoting the year long collection of food label products (Box Tops for Education, Amazon Smile, Shutterfly, The MarketPlace Phila, etc) in order for the school to earn points or monetary funds for educational materials. Volunteers are needed for short periods throughout the year to enter Coke Give codes. Contests among classrooms or other fun events may also be coordinated by this individual.

Spirit Wear - This committee focuses on selecting spirit clothing for HBEC students, families, and teachers each year. This can include setting up a specific spirit wear order event or ordering/stocking spirit wear depending on inventory and current need. Volunteers may be needed to help sell the clothing at events. The Chairperson of this committee would be responsible for working with the clothing representative to design and order the Spirit Clothing. This individual would be responsible for scheduling volunteers to help sell the items at various events.
Yearbook – This committee is responsible for putting together the materials for the annual HBEC yearbook. Volunteers are needed to help gather the photos by taking pictures at HBEC events and assist with the layout of the yearbook. One of these volunteers might also work with the school in submitting photos/newspaper articles to the local newspapers. The Chairperson of this committee is responsible for working with the distributor to coordinate the various deadlines for completion and distribution of the yearbook in May, as well as coordinating the activities of the Yearbook volunteers.
